Mitsubishi marketed the SUV as the Montero in Spain and the Americas and as the Shogun in the United Kingdom but is no longer sold in North America as of late 2006. The Pajero nameplate was marketed globally.

The Pajero has earned a respected legacy in rally and are particularly noted for having won the Dakar Rally 12 times, having the highest number of Dakar Rally stage wins (nearly twice that of the nearest competitor), and seizing 80% of Dakar Rally podium finishes from 2001-2005. Records for which Mitsubishi earned a place in the Guinness World Records and are currently unbeaten.

Due to their success, the Pajero, Montero and Shogun have become one of the worlds most desired Vintage SUV’s.

The Pajero will be discontinued in 2021 due to declining sales figures and Mitsubishi’s decision to focus more on the Crossover market.

The Montero Sport offered is a Rust-Free Survivor with the most desired options when sold new by Crown Mitsubishi in Greensboro, NC. Florence Beige and Black Original Paint and 18F Beige Interior. A gasoline powered 2.6L 4-cylinder engine propels the Montero through a 5-speed manual transmission and 2 speed transfer case. Auto Locking front hubs, torsion bar front suspension and a limited slip differential put the power to the ground. Driver comfort is bolstered by power steering and brakes, power windows and locks, tilt steering wheel, suspension drivers’ seat and stereo. Off roaders and kids alike enjoy the factory inclinometer cluster on the dash. Factory installed options include air conditioning, power windows and chrome spoke wheels. Engine power has been upgraded with the installation of a Weber carburetor. Recent service includes new battery and tires, oil change and brake inspection.
